CYCLING THROUGH OTTAWA, QUYON AND GATINEAU

Laura Calle

Strap on your helmet and get ready to discover this new experience with the GCC. This time our group of cyclists completed a route full of scenery and spectacular views of the Ottawa River. From Britania Beach (Ottawa) and through Quyon, Quebec to Gatineau, this route will allow you to test your skills on the bike and your resistance to long distances in strong headwinds while riding through charming villages. The route is about 118 kilometers from Britania Beach, with an approximate duration of 4 hours and 30 minutes at an average speed of 27 km/h.

Distance: 118 km

Elevation Gain: 490m

TIME: 4:30 hrs

Skill level and terrain:

This route is perfect for cyclists looking for an exciting but manageable challenge. With an intermediate level of skill, all enthusiastic cyclists will be able to complete a long-distance Fondo.

Although the terrain is mostly flat, with no extremely difficult climbs, do not underestimate the energy and endurance required to ride the approximately 118 kilometers from start to finish. With about 550 meters of positive elevation gain, the wind will be the target to beat.

Points of Interest:

This trip offers the opportunity to enjoy a variety of points of interest and attractions. From quaint farms to historic villages with old buildings, every turn adds to the miles as you travel between two provinces: Ontario and Quebec. Crossing the Ottawa River by ferry at Quyon, Quebec, adds a fun twist that no other route in the region can offer.

Fun fact!!! There’s a street here called “Egan Rue,” a great reminder of our beloved Colombian cyclist Egan Bernal.

Difficulty and road conditions:

Although there are no mountainous climbs on this route, the challenge lies in the wind and the distance. Maintaining a consistent cadence, especially on the climbs, will be key to successfully completing the route.

Infrastructure and equipment:

The route can be challenging in terms of traffic and road conditions, but with caution and determination, nothing is impossible.

On the route, there is berm on approximately 70% of the road. Although there is no specific infrastructure for cyclists, you can find gas pumps and depanneurs. Remember to take with you everything you need to stay safe and comfortable during the trip. From water and hydrating drinks to spare tires for your bike.

Stops and refueling:

About halfway along the route, we recommend stopping at the restaurant at Egan Street and Route 148 in Quyon. There are several options for breakfast and refueling before continuing.

Rules and Regulations:

It is recommended that you ride in a group and always be aware of traffic, especially in urban areas. There are no traffic restrictions or permits required for cyclists, but it is important to always obey traffic laws.

Transportation and Parking:

For those arriving by car, we recommend parking at the Britania Beach parking lot, where the route begins and ends.

With varied terrain and exciting challenges, this route will take you through an unforgettable biking adventure, so get on your bike, join us and get ready for an experience that will leave you wanting more!

If you have any questions or need more information, don’t hesitate to contact us, we’ll see you on the road!

Beyond The Ride

Beyond The Ride

The funny thing is that, despite being “the most connected,” that day we were disconnected. We couldn’t talk or exchange messages on the road. Live location sharing never worked.

And still, the summit brought us together.

It was a brief, emotional, almost timeless meeting—short in minutes, permanent in memory. A shared achievement, a memory built at altitude.
